TIDA-00310
Analog Input, Output and Relay Drive Output Module for Smart Grid IEDs Reference Design
TIDA-00310
Overview
This reference design showcases a flexible Analog IO solution for Smart Grid devices like Protection Relays and RTUs that also need to communicate with other devices on the grid that use the analog IO such as voltage (5V to 10V DC) or current (4-20mA). This solution enables both types of IO as well as a power digital relay drive. SPI and I2C communication interfaces are available on this module for communication to the processor.
Features
- Analog I/O handled includes:
- Current Input 0-20mA / 0-24mA / 4-20mA DC
- Voltage Input 0-5V DC / 0-10V DC
- Excellent accuracy < ±0.2 % of incoming signal
- High Sampling rate (up to 500kSPS)
- Simplifies connectivity to MCU with SPI interface
- Analog Output handling includes:
- Flexible solution – configurable
- Current/Voltage outputs
- DAC Daisy Chaining minimizes connectivity to MCU
- Digital Output handling includes:
- 4x better power efficiency with respect to ULN series
A fully assembled board has been developed for testing and performance validation only, and is not available for sale.
